Runtime architecture: Docker Swarm, Solr and high availability

Diagram of the runtime architecture: Docker Swarm, MariaDB Galera, and Apache Solr behind a load balancer

Web and caching layer

The web layer uses replicated Apache and PHP-FPM, with Varnish in front of them and Memcached as an internal cache.

A highly available data layer

The data layer is a MariaDB Galera cluster that handles replication and high availability.

Full-text search through Apache Solr

Full-text search runs on Apache Solr in two instances in a primary/replica setup. Drupal talks to Solr through Search API and indexes the content, including documents.

Load balancing and continuity of service

A load balancer distributes traffic across the instances and keeps the service running when an individual component fails.

The architecture scales and is ready for further development without changing the underlying concept. This makes the Civil Servant Portal a robust platform for intranet applications.
